Chapternal is run by Lucid Systems LLC. This page says what we collect, why we collect it, and who else can see it.

What we hold

Your account. Name, email, and profile image from the sign-in you chose. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us those; we never see your Google password. We keep session records so you stay signed in.

Your work. The manuscript you upload or paste, your cast, your notes, and the audio. Stored on your account. Not shown to others unless you publish a title.

A computer you connect. If you register your own computer to generate voices, we store its name and the audio it produces for your account. We do not receive anything else from that computer.

Automated checks. When a recording is reviewed, we store that verdict.

An invite request. If you ask for an invite, we keep the email address you give and what you tell us you are writing, so the owner can read it and add you. Ask again and it replaces the first.

A title notice. If you ask to hear when a title is ready, we keep that email address and which title, send you one email when it plays, and then delete the address.

What we do not hold

We do not sell anything to advertisers. We do not build a profile of you. We do not run third-party trackers or advertising pixels on this site. We do not train models on your manuscripts or your audio, and we do not license them to anyone who does.

Who else touches it

• Vercel hosts the site and processes requests, including your IP address. It also counts page views and measures how fast pages load, for us, without cookies and without a profile of you.
• Neon stores the database — your account, your work, and your audio.
• Google handles sign-in when you choose it, and serves the fonts this site uses, which means your browser contacts Google to load them.
• Amazon Web Services sends the one email a title notice promises: it receives that address and that message, nothing else.
• xAI receives the text of a specific request when you ask for an image for a chapter or a wording suggestion on a line — that request only, when you ask for it. Your book is not sent wholesale, and nothing is sent unless you press the button.

When we begin taking payment, our payment processor will handle card details directly. We will not see or store your card number. This page will name that processor before it is switched on.

Where it lives

Our servers and database run in the United States. If you are outside the United States, using Chapternal means your information is processed there.

How long

Your work stays until you delete it or close your account. Closing your account removes your account and the work stored with it, including books, recordings, published copies, and verdicts. Backups may hold copies for a short period after that.

What you can ask for

Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it. Depending on where you live you may have a formal right to those things; we will honour the request either way, and we do not require you to cite a law to make it.

Children

Chapternal is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and change the date at the top. Continuing to use Chapternal after that means the new version applies.
